Robert is an expert in import and export compliance, Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ), customs bonded warehouses, duty drawback, HTS classification, Incoterms, and Free Trade Agreements. He has helped businesses with duty and tariff mitigation strategies including FTZ feasibility studies, FTZ and bonded warehouse implementation.
What are bonded warehouse and Foreign Trade Zones?
How can they help the Importers and Exporters? As we all know our Importers and exporters need help with the new tariffs and constant changes.
Bonded warehouses are inside U.S. Customs territory, requiring entry filing and bonds for storing foreign goods (up to 5 years) with duty paid upon withdrawal; while Foreign Trade Zones (FTZs) are outside Customs territory, allowing indefinite storage, mixing foreign/domestic goods, and broader manufacturing/manipulation without immediate duty, making them more flexible for complex supply chains. Choose a bonded warehouse for simple duty deferral and storage, and an FTZ for manufacturing, complex processing, or longer-term indefinite storage.
Come join Robert Stein, Vice President, Braumiller Consulting Group and Merit Tremper, Merit Trade Consulting Services as we delve into this more in detail.
